While there are many ways to increase the performance of your Honda Civic, one great way to do so is by installing a turbo kit. By installing a turbo kit to your Honda Civic, you can increase the HP of your engine without robbing energy from your engine to do so.
A turbo kit is designed to increase performance by compressing the intake air to the cylinders allowing more to enter at one time. The turbo is powered by your exhaust coming from your Civic engine, which is just unused energy. With the turbo compressing the Civic intake air, your engine is able to create a more efficient fuel/air burn which equates to more HP. A supercharger is generally the same thing, but it uses the energy from your engine to compress the intake air.
While a turbo is a great addition to your Civic to increase performance, it does require proper operation or you can damage the turbo or even your engine. While a turbo spins it generates heat from the friction and the exhaust also adds to that heat. This can lead to problems such as overheating of the engine or damage to the turbo. When you go to shut off your Civic engine, it is recommended that you leave your Civic on idle for at least 1-3 minutes for turning the engine off. If you don't allow the turbo to spin down, it will continue spinning, generating heat, and can cook the oil used to lubricate the bearings. Lastly a turbo can take some time to completely spin up, which means there will be a delay to the extra performance that it provides, this isn't bad though, it allows your Civic time to gain traction before you get the boost in HP.
- A Turbo on your Civic will increase HP
- A Turbo uses the unused energy from your Civic exhaust
- A Turbo does have a slow response at first (turbo lag)
