if you're looking to increase the performance of your Dodge Neon SRT-4, you've probably looked at installing an Intercooler.  The advantage of installing an intercooler on your Neon SRT-4 is more then just more performance, the intercooler also helps to keep turbo and engine heat down.  This allows the intercooler to help protect your turbo and engine from heat damage.

The purpose of an intercooler kit on your Neon SRT-4 is to cool the intake air entering the cylinders and cool the exhaust gases from your engine.  With a turbo, exhaust gases are routed to the turbo of your Neon SRT-4, before being expelled, providing the energy needed to run it.  The turbo on your Neon SRT-4 compresses the incoming air to the cylinders allowing for a more efficient burn of your fuel.  However the heat from the exhaust gases used to turn the turbo on your Neon SRT-4 also heats it, which in turn heats the intake air as well.  As air heats it expands, making it so fewer air molecules can occupy a given area.  With an intercooler on your Neon SRT-4, it will help cool the exhaust gases before it reaches the turbo, helping keep the turbo and the engine of your Neon SRT-4 cooler, and it will cool the incoming air to the cylinder.  This allows the engine of your Neon SRT-4 to burn the fuel more efficiently due to the greater amount of air able to enter the cylinders, which provides your engine with even greater performance.

An intercooler can come with two types of cooling for your Neon SRT-4, you can have either air-air or air-liquid cooling.  There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of cooling on your Neon SRT-4.  Other then how the intercooler cools the intake/exhaust gases, there's really only two differences between them.  An air-liquid intercooler generally weighs more then an air-air intercooler, this is due to the fact that the air-liquid intercooler cools the intake/exhaust gases using some type of liquid (usually water).  While the air-liquid intercooler does weigh more, it does however help lower turbo lag.  With an air-liquid intercooler the piping for the gases is much less then an air-air, this allows the gases to reach the turbo and cylinder much faster.
