While you may have a turbo installed on your Mitsubishi Eclipse GST/GSX, you may want to consider installing an intercooler kit as well.  An intercooler installed on your GST/GSX will help increase performance, keep engine and turbo heat down, and can even lower turbo lag.

With an intercooler kit installed on your Eclipse GST/GSX it will increase the performance from your engine by lowering the temperature of the intake air to your cylinder.  As air molecules heat up they expand, lowering the amount of molecules in a given area.  The intercooler on your Eclipse GST/GSX will cool down the intake air, increasing the amount of molecules able to enter the cylinder head at a time, which gives a more efficient fuel/air burn in the cylinders.  With an intercooler in your Eclipse GST/GSX it will also help lower the temperature of the exhaust coming out your engine.  The exhaust gases are routed to the turbo of your Eclipse GST/GSX before it is expelled, while providing the energy for the turbo to turn, the exhaust also heats the turbo (which will heat the incoming air to the engine).  With the intercooler helping keep the turbo and incoming air cooler on your Eclipse GST/GSX, it helps keep engine heat down which could lead to cylinder cracking or detonation.

When buy an intercooler kit for your Eclipse GST/GSX you also need to decide what type of cooling you want.  Intercoolers can be cooled in one of two ways;  either through air-air or air-liquid cooling.  An air-air intercooler utilizes, as its name suggests, the outside air to help cool the gases in your Eclipse GST/GSX, while an air-liquid intercooler uses some type of liquid to cool the gases (usually water).  An air-liquid intercooler generally weighs more then an air-air, however it can help lower turbo lag on your Eclipse GST/GSX.  The air-liquid set up requires less piping then an air-air, which allows the gases to reach the turbo/engine of your Eclipse GST/GSX sooner then an air-air intercooler.
